Jump

As the
squirrel gathers
himself on a young pine,
the maple branch he left behind
quivers.

Comments:
This strikes me as the strongest of the four poems. The title is energetic and unpretentious, and helps offset any sense that the poem might be "serious."

I like how the poem treats time, using the "as the" to take us from the end of the jump to where it began, as well as to emphasize the simultanaity of the images.

The poem sketches the moment deftly, and implicit is the idea that our actions leave a wake behind them.
